Is your De’Longhi taking longer to steam milk, spluttering through the milk carafe or leaking around a connection?
These are good reasons to give the machine some attention. Cleaning is the first step, but worn seals can also contribute to poor performance—and they’re easy to overlook during general servicing.
Our Universal De’Longhi Steam & Milk Coupling O-Ring Kit – 8 Piece provides replacement seals for different steam and milk coupling configurations, including compatible automatic and La Specialista manual machines.
🧼 Start with cleaning before replacing parts
Poor steam flow does not automatically mean an O-ring has failed.
On a manual machine such as a La Specialista, check the steam tip for dried milk and follow your model’s cleaning instructions. De’Longhi recommends purging the wand, wiping it clean and using the supplied cleaning needle where applicable. See De’Longhi’s steam-pressure troubleshooting advice.
On an automatic machine, clean the milk-carafe lid, intake tube and accessible milk passages, then check that everything is correctly assembled. Follow the machine’s descaling instructions when descaling is due.
If cleaning hasn’t solved the problem, inspect the relevant seals and connections.
🔍 When should you check the steam and milk coupling O-rings?
Check for missing or damaged seals, particularly if you notice moisture or steam escaping around the connection.
An O-ring that has become hard, flattened or split may no longer seal properly. Where that allows steam to escape, it can reduce the steam reaching the milk system.
The universal eight-piece steam and milk coupling kit is useful for replacing these worn seals during a repair or general service.
The kit covers different configurations. Fit only the rings that match your machine—you do not install all eight rings on every model.
🔧 Servicing an automatic De’Longhi? Check the other three O-rings too
While you’re checking the steam and milk seals, it’s a good opportunity to inspect the seals on the coffee-brewing side of the machine.
Our De’Longhi Brew Unit & Piston O-Ring Set – 3 Pack is a separate set for compatible automatic machines.
These seals serve a different purpose from the steam coupling rings. They help the brew-unit and piston assemblies seal correctly during coffee preparation.
If both sets are worn, replacing them during the same service is a sensible approach. It lets you address the milk/steam connections and brewing seals together, then test the machine’s functions after servicing.
This does not mean every seal needs replacing just because one has failed. Inspect their condition and replace the matching worn seals. The three-piece brew-unit set is for compatible automatic machines; it should not be assumed to fit La Specialista manual machines.
If you’re also finding excess water in the grounds container, read Why Is My De’Longhi Leaking Water into the Coffee Grounds Container?.
🧰 Prefer a combined service kit?
The Ultimate De’Longhi Service Kit brings together brew-unit and piston seals, assorted steam/milk coupling O-rings, small connection O-rings and silicone grease. It is a convenient option when servicing both the brewing and milk/steam systems on a compatible automatic machine. Check suitability and use only the seals that match your machine.
🛠️ Make seal checks part of your general service
A useful service checks how the whole machine is performing, rather than stopping once it makes coffee again.
Alongside the cleaning and maintenance specified for your model, inspect accessible seals, look for leaks and check the operation of the coffee, hot-water and milk or steam functions.
Before removing seals, switch off and unplug the machine and let it cool. Take a photo of the original positions, clean the grooves carefully and fit the correct replacements without twisting them. Use lubricant suitable for the application and seal material where specified.
Some piston seals require internal disassembly. Have those replaced by a repair technician if the work is beyond your experience.
☕ Still getting poor steam flow?
Fresh O-rings can help when leaking seals are the cause. They will not clear every blockage or fix a faulty valve or heating component.
If the machine still has weak steam, leaks internally or performs poorly after cleaning and seal replacement, it needs further diagnosis.
