💧 DeLonghi leaking water into the coffee grounds container?
You open the drip tray and find the coffee grounds container full of water. A few drops can be normal, but if it looks more like a swimming pool, your DeLonghi has a leak that needs attention.
This guide applies to many DeLonghi automatic coffee machines, including Magnifica, Dinamica, PrimaDonna, Eletta, Autentica and similar ECAM/ETAM models.
💧 Looking after water quality helps extend the life of your machine. A fresh filter can help reduce scale buildup and support smoother water flow. See the De’Longhi water filter pack.
🔧 1. Worn O-rings — the usual DIY fix
The most common cause is worn seals: two O-rings on the removable infuser and one on the mechanical valve piston. When they flatten or become brittle, water escapes under brew pressure and ends up in the grounds container.
✅ Start with the inexpensive fix: DeLonghi Infuser and Piston O-Ring Set (3 Pack). When fitting new seals, use plenty of food-grade O-ring grease so the infuser moves smoothly and the new seals are not damaged.
⚠️ 2. Cracked mechanical valve
If fresh O-rings do not solve the problem, the mechanical valve itself may have a small crack. Under pressure it can spray water inside the machine, which then drains into the grounds container. This is a larger repair because the machine must be stripped down significantly.
🔧 Confirmed a damaged valve? View the De’Longhi Mechanical / Mechanica Valve – 5513227961 / AS00006027. This upper brewing piston assembly is also called a mechanics valve. Both cream and black versions of the matching valve assembly are interchangeable. Part number AS00006027 is cross-listed as a replacement for 5513227961; colour alone does not determine compatibility. If your machine lists another valve code, contact us for help confirming suitability.
💡 Start with the seals first. If the leak persists, contact Matt for repair advice before the water damages other parts of the machine.

🧰 Doing a general service at the same time?
If your machine also has worn steam or milk coupling seals, consider the Ultimate De’Longhi Service Kit. It combines brew-unit and piston seals, assorted steam/milk coupling O-rings, small connection O-rings and silicone grease for compatible machines. Replacing both sets during the same service makes sense when both are worn; the extra seals do not replace diagnosis of a persistent leak.
For help with the milk and steam side, read De’Longhi Poor Steam Flow? Check Your O-Rings During a General Service. Check kit compatibility and fit only the matching seals.
