Breville Dual Boiler Steam Wand Leaking? BES920 Steam Ball Valve Fix

If your Breville Dual Boiler BES920 steam wand is dripping when it should be off, this is one of the most common causes I see. It is usually not just a dirty steam tip—the steam ball valve inside the machine is often worn out.

The good news is that it is a repairable fault. Replacing the valve can stop the leak, restore proper shut-off and help prevent steam from escaping where it should not.

💧 Breville Dual Boiler steam wand leaking

A little moisture after steaming can be normal while the wand cools down. But if it keeps dripping or hissing once the steam control is fully off, the valve is no longer sealing properly.

Inside the steam ball valve are O-rings and PTFE plastic washers. Over time, heat, steam and scale wear these parts out. Once they no longer seal properly, steam can pass through the valve and drip from the end of the steam wand.

🔊 Hissing sound inside a Breville BES920

A leak does not always show only at the tip of the wand. You may hear a hissing sound inside the machine, notice steam escaping around the control, or find the machine is not holding steam pressure like it used to.

This is worth fixing sooner rather than later. Steam leaking inside the machine can create extra heat and moisture around components that are meant to stay dry, which can lead to a more expensive repair if it is left too long.

🛠️ Why replace the whole steam ball valve?

Breville does not supply the internal O-rings or PTFE washers as OEM repair parts. While the worn seals are the reason for the leak, the sensible solution is to replace the complete valve rather than try to reuse a worn assembly.

For suitable BES920 repairs, use our Breville Steam Ball Valve Kit. It is the part to look at when the steam wand leaks, drips constantly or the machine has a hissing steam leak inside.
