Basket Getting Stuck In Machine

🔧 Basket stuck in your Breville group head?

This commonly happens on Breville Dual Boiler and Oracle machines — BES900, BES920, BES980 and BES990. You finish making a coffee, remove the portafilter, and the basket stays stuck up inside the machine. Sometimes it is so tight that it needs to be carefully pried out.

⚠️ Do not keep forcing the portafilter. The usual cause is the factory plastic inner shower screen cracking and expanding, which lets it grip the basket.

✅ The fix is normally straightforward: remove the single centre screw with the correct hex key, replace the failed plastic part, then refit the screw without overtightening it.
