Breville Coffee Machine Stopping At 5 seconds

There’s nothing worse than having a Breville Coffee Machine Stopping At 5 seconds.

So you most likely have the Breville Barista Pro (BES878), or the Breville Barista Touch (BES880), and the water runs for 5 seconds and then stops. How frustrating! And you’ve read on the internet that it’s an air bubble or air lock that you can push through, and you’ve used 5 litres with still no luck??? Here’s the answer.

Now keep in mind, it does happen with other machines, but there two models are the most common culprits. The reason your Breville coffee machine stops after five seconds is not because of an air block/lock, but it’s in fact related to the flow meter.

So in this little guy is a turbine with a couple of magnets. The water comes in the bottom, spins the turbine/magnets and comes out the top pipe. There is a connector that sits on the top, and talks to the control board. This process, counts the revolutions, and tells the machine how much water is coming through.

This piece or connection is most likely faulty, and your barista pro or barista touch, thinks there’s no water coming through and is trying to save your boiler. Either replace this part, or send it in for repairs.
