So you have a Breville Dual Boiler, or a Breville Oracle, and it’s gone over temperature.
DISCONNECT IT FROM THE WALL. Yes it has to be yelled, because reading and doing this is potentially going to save you hundreds of dollars. Please do so now.
This post is less of a “how to repair post” and more of an informational post.
Basically the steam boilers on these machines can leak (due to o-rings wearing out, or steam probes failing). Directly above the steam boiler is a computer board, called a Triac Assembly.
What’s happening is the steam is getting onto the assembly and creating havoc:
Overheating:
This is when the Triac(s) have failed. Think of these as a gate, regulating power to the heating elements. When they fail, they draw power from the wall even if the machine is off. Your boiler(s) (or the grouphead) will get hotter and hotter until either the Thermal Fuse blows, or the one of the boilers blow out, and this is where we get expensive.
Disconnect from the wall, and consult a professional (like us).
Self Activating (Oracles):
Is your machine acting possessed? Turning the steam wand or the hot water tap on by itself? Don’t worry, you don’t need an exorcism! But as mention, you do need to disconnect from the wall!
There is steam releasing inside of your machine onto the Triac Assembly, particularly the Signal Relay. Essentially as these parts are getting wet, the machine “thinks” you’re pressing the buttons on the front. Even if your machine is not overheating (YET) you have a steam leak inside that’s reeking havoc, and the time is nigh that expensive dramas will incur.
Disconnect from the wall, and consult a professional (like us). If you have a Breville going over temperature, you want to save it, follow these steps. If you’re handy, you can head over to the shop, and look at one of our repair kits like this:
